GPS began in the 1980's as a navigational tool
for the U.S. military. GPS uses satellites to calculate the precise
location of anyone having a GPS receiver. While it is nice to be able
to know your location, mapping users can go a step further by using GPS
to actually record locational information for display in a GIS or Google Earth. Waypoint
Mapping has been working with GPS for mapping since 1991.

GPS Mapping: GPS can be used to map points, lines and areas. Descriptions of these features can be entered while in the field and the resulting intelligent map can be viewed in either ArcGIS or Google Earth. By combining GPS with digital cameras, you
can create impressive GPS Photo Maps. Just point and click on
the map to see the photo taken at the location.
