GIS & Visual Intelligence for Emergency ResponseTM The focus of this class is on the use of Geo-Spatial Intelligence for emergency management, planning and response. Discover the latest hardware, software, data and accessories that are useful in the EOC. The class is designed to accommodate both beginning and advanced users of GIS, so there is something for everyone! Learn to make the most of mapping and visual intelligence technologies and put that knowledge to work right away. Classes are offered several times each year at the National Spill Control School at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi.
Topics include: Realtime Weather for GIS, plume modeling with ALOHA, GPS photo mapping for damage assessment, using Google Earth and Microsoft Virtual Earth for data distribution.
Upcoming Class Schedule:
- April 3, 2009 at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, TX
- June 5, 2009 at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, TX
- September 29, 2009 at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, TX

Realtime Weather for GISTM Learn how to integrate realtime weather information into your GIS! Color weather radar, lightning strike locations, watches and warnings and many more weather layers can be viewed as overlays within ArcGIS. This class also demonstrates how to integrate realtime weather data into plume modeling applications such as ALOHA and then display the results in ArcGIS and Google Earth, so that resources-at-risk can be identified and an effective response can be planned and executed. Classes are offered at regional GIS Conferences and the class can also be delivered on-site for groups of up to 20 students by request.
Topics include: Sources of free and commercial GIS weather data , using weather data as an input to plume modeling with ALOHA, Using Google Earth and Microsoft Virtual Earth for realtime weather monitoring.
Upcoming Class Schedule:
- March 30 , 2008 at the South Central Arc User Group Meeting in Austin, TX

GPS Mapping for Emergency ResponseTM Learn how to use a combination of GPS and digital cameras to map your assets and critical infrastructure both before and after disaster strikes! There is simply no other technology that combines both accuracy and cost-effectiveness within such a user-friendly tool. The various levels of GPS accuracy and capabilities will be covered, so that you understand what each type of GPS can do. Classes are offered at regional GIS Conferences and the class can also be delivered on-site for groups of up to 20 students by request.
Topics include: GPS hardware, GPS software and acccessories for GPS data capture. Field exercises demonstrate how to perform a resources-at-risk field inventory and damage assessment for GIS.
Upcoming Class Schedule:
- 2008 class schedule is complete - 2009 classes TBA soon
The "GIS Go Kit"TM This half-day workshop demonstrates how to combine off-the-shelf GIS and GPS hardware, specialized software applications and sources of GIS data into a portable Geo-Spatial Intelligence system for use in Emergency Response. Classes are offered at regional GIS Conferences and the class can also be delivered on-site for groups of up to 20 students by request.
Topics include: Mission-critical GIS and GPS hardware, software and acccessories for mobile GIS for emergency response, sources of GIS data and how to work within the NIMS command environment.
Upcoming Class Schedule:
